The Four Key Congregational Training, March 10, 2007

The Youth & Family Institute presented the Four Key Congregational Training, an approach to faith formation that focuses on partnering home and congregation in ministry. This initiative represents a convergence of the biblical witness, our confessional tradition and the most recent research in faith formation for children, youth, and their families.

Through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, Four Key Congregations develop a holistic approach to congregational leadership that nurtures faith in child, youth, and adults. Specifically, congregations grow in faith maturity, the life and ministry of lay professionals and clergy is revitalized, youth ministries are strengthened, parenting/family skills expand and relationships deepen, and new leadership is identified and equipped.

On March 10th and 11th our congregation had the opportunity to hear Pastor Dave Anderson speak about faith formation through the Child in Our Hands model. Pastor Anderson challenged us to think of church in its broader context to include our homes. He presented Five Principles and Four Keys to faith formation that will form a foundation for ministry in our congregation and in our homes.

We are called to live our our mission through...
FIVE PRINCIPLES for passing on faith
1. Faith is formed by the power of the Holy Spirit through personal, trusted relationships—often in our own homes.
2. The church is a living partnership between the ministry of the congregation and the ministry of the home.
3. Where Christ is present in faith, the home is church, too.
4. Faith is caught more than it is taught.
5. If we want Christian children and youth, we need Christian adults and parents.
FOUR KEYS for daily living
1. Caring Conversations
2. Devotions
3. Service
4. Rituals and Traditions
