Endowment Fund

The Grace Church Endowment Fund was approved by Grace Congregation in February, 1986, and the Fund's Board of Directors held its first meeting later that month. Shortly thereafter, the State and Federal Government recognized the Fund as a non-profit (and tax-exempt) entity.

The Fund invests cash contributions primarily in ELCA Mission Investment CD's, and also in other interest-bearing bonds/notes. The Fund uses the ongoing interest to provide young adults in Grace Congregation with scholarships to help with their college/university/seminary expenses. The first Scholarship - $100.00 - was awarded in May 1990, and two more were awarded in December of that year. Many more Scholarship Awards have followed, e.g., three in 2001, two in 2002, and four in 2003.

Early each year the Chairperson of the Board sends a letter to all high school seniors and college/university/seminary students in the Congregation who have not already received a Scholarship. The letter contains an Application for Scholarship Funds that includes a request for a short essay "... explaining how the Church or your Christian faith has influenced your decision to further your education." Scholarships are usually awarded to successful applicants each May during a Sunday worship service. Winning essays are often reprinted in the monthly Letter of Grace.

Our program "Giving While Living" provides meaningful opportunities for special contributions members of Grace may wish to make to commemorate a significant or joyous occasion, along with receiving the satisfaction of seeing our gifts at work NOW - scholarship assistance to our young people. Throughout the history of the Church people have expressed their love and gratitude to God through gifts and memorials. Much can be accomplished through these expressions of devotion to God's work. Your financial support of the Fund can take many forms, such as:

  • Cash gifts
  • Gifts of stocks, bonds, or other non-cash assets
  • Gifts of life insurance policies
  • Naming the Fund as beneficiary on a policy you own
  • Naming the Fund as beneficiary of your estate or trust

Contribution checks can be made out to Grace Church Endowment Fund, Inc. and placed in the Sunday offering plate or mailed to the Church office.
