| This
banner designed by Mike Peery and sewed by his mom Marinelle.
It was first used to celebrate our congregation's 25th anniversary.
It was hung above the chancel, in place of the large wooden
cross that is normally there. During the year-long celebration,
the design of the banner evolved to reflect various themes
that were emphasized each month.
In the beginning, the cross on the
banner had a simpler form and color, and only the motif
in the center and the numbers at the bottom appeared. The
numbers represent the year Grace was chartered and the year
of the 25th anniversary. The design in the middle represents
the circle of our congregation and our reaching out to others
through the cross of Christ.
During the season of Lent, the large
cross was changed to one made of black fabric. Then on Easter
morning the yellow and green one appeared. That cross then
stayed in place for the rest of the year. In addition, the
small square motifs were added to the banner, one each month..
Some of the themes from the year that are represented on
the banner are Christian Marriage, The Working of the Holy
Spirit, Holy Baptism, Outreach Ministries, Vacation Bible
School, Stewardship of Property, Youth, Servanthood, The
Lords Supper, and Thanksgiving. Can you pick out the themes?
