Pastor Michael W. Frye grew up in Kannapolis, North Carolina, the first of five children. He graduated from A. L. Brown High School in Kannapolis, received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from Lenoir-Rhyne College in Hickory, North Carolina in 1969, and a Master of Divinity Degree from Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in Columbia, South Carolina in 1973. In 1987 he received the Doctor of Ministry Degree in Marriage and Family from Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Pastor Frye has served parishes in Salisbury, Charlotte and Gastonia, North Carolina, as well as a congregation in Dallas, Texas. He began his call as Senior Pastor of Grace Lutheran Church in May of 2001. In the North Carolina Synod he has served as chairman of the Youth Ministry and the Family Life Committees and president of the North Carolina Luther League. He has served on the Board of Directors of Lutheran Family Services in North Carolina, and presently serves on the Board of Trustees of Lenoir-Rhyne College. His church-wide activities include service as a youth caravaner to the Luther League of the Lutheran Church in the Eastern Pennsylvania Synod. In 1972 he served as a delegate to the Lutheran Church in America (LCA) Assembly in Dallas, Texas, and as delegate to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) Assembly in Orlando, Florida in 1991.

Pastor Frye and Judy Sloop met their senior year in high school and were married after graduating from Lenoir-Rhyne College in 1969. They have two daughters, Elizabeth and Jennifer. Judy is currently the Director of Children's Music at Hudson Memorial Presbyterian Church.
